Commeris has risen like a shooting star, rivalling Sulidam in a mere century. While Sulidam and the empire decays around it, many see Commeris as the new hope for Terrania. |
Commeris is a huge city and seaport that rivals Sulidam in size. Commeris is a plutocracy, ruled by merchant houses. The Prince of Commeris has always been from from House Andoris, the oldest merchant house in Commeris. However, he shares his power with two other houses, House Serpentis and the Caldragon Cartel. Rivalry between each house is usually not political but commercial in nature. Each house has its own private army that maintains order in their respective districts. Visitors to Commeris will note that people of all races and all walks of life can be found here. Being the only trade link to the oriental lands of Predella and Asahi, a number of orientals can be found in this city as well.

In the year of our emperor 1402, Prince Commeris of House Andoris (the ruling dynasty of the Terran Empire then) sailed into Karrensford, than a minor fishing town dealing in oriental antiquities. By virtue of his rank as an Imperial Prince, he assumed control of Karrensford, realising the trading potential of this town. Located next to the only mountain pass to Daessi and the emirates as well as the only established sea route to Predella and Asahi, he realised the value of Karrensford in east-west trade. It's naturally deep harbour and proximity to important trade routes would enable Commeris to dominate eastern trade and shipping in the Karren's sea. In a mere century or so under the guidance of Prince Commeris and House Andoris, an already large town grew into a wealthy port city. House Andoris had now become a huge merchant house owning most of the property and trading fleets in the city. |
This is the embassy for Daessi, the wizard's stronghold in the Craggen mountains. The High Commissioner is the Enchanter Hilarion. Many wizards-to-be can be found near the Daessi consulate as it is the only known means to enter Daessi and learn magic. The Enchanter Hilarion is also the owner of Chemcheaux 200, a magic shop located in the grounds of the Daessi Consulate. Often, many adventurers can be found here trading in magical items or purchasing them. |
House Andoris. Prince Lepanto is the present house prince. The most powerful merchant house in Commeris, House Andoris owns a large portion of the surrounding land and a huge trading fleet. Like any other merchant house, House Andoris is primarily concerned with profit. Nevertheless, they are known to be fair and honourable. It is rumoured that House Andoris plans to reinstate the Andoris dynasty of the Holy Terran Empire, ousting the present Crimsonrose family. The symbol of House Andoris is an eagle with outstretched wings perched on a shield. The Caldragon Cartel. For such a large city, it is amazing that there is no thief's guild. Although the Cartel is not a thief's guild in the traditional sense, many consider them an evolved thief's guild. Highly organised, the cartel deals in slavery, smuggling, prostitution and more. Composed of "families", the cartel is ruled by a "Godfather" and various "Don"s. The Caldragon Cartel is probably the most organised crime syndicate on Terrania. The family symbol is a horned dragon's head. House Serpentis. Mysterious, insidious, efficient... Few know who rules this merchant house nor the extent of their influence. Although set up only within the last decade, these information brokers have now risen to a position equal to House Andoris and the Caldragon Cartel. Their symbol is a serpent coiled around a tome. Agents of House Serpentis come in various appointments (in order of importance): Director, Supervisor, Coordinator and Agent. Agents are the representives of the house and are used as spies, assassins and
messengers. Observers have noted that House Serpentis agents are ranked by the number on their collars (in roman numerals). |
